Microsoft acquires Calista Technologies
Microsoft is excited to announce that it has completed the acquisition of
Calista Technologies, a leading provider of graphic technologies for next-generation
desktop and presentation virtualization solutions, located in San Jose, California.
Calista Technologies now is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft.
Calista’s software improves the end-user experience of 3D and multimedia
delivery for Microsoft multimedia applications, virtualized desktop deployments,
and server-hosted virtualized desktops or applications using Windows Terminal
Services. Calista’s industry-first and patent pending virtual GPU technology
enhances the end user experience for virtual desktops and increases the user
density per server. Calista provides support for 100% of all file and streaming
media types available for a modern Windows desktop experience without the need
for dedicated hardware or software on the client.
Microsoft has been a leader in the presentation virtualization space for
more than ten years with Windows Terminal Services. With the addition of
Calista, Microsoft is striving to provide the best, broadest and most affordable
virtualization technology portfolio for customers and partners.
“We are very excited to become part of Microsoft so that the employees
of Calista can help shape the desktop virtualization technology and vision
for the industry,” said Neal Margulis, founder and chairman of Calista
Technologies.
John Schroeder, Calista President and CEO added: “The Calista platform
becomes an important part of Microsoft’s virtualization strategy going
forward, and will be integrated into a broad set of products and platform
technologies so customers and partners can deliver centralized computing
in a much more flexible, dynamic and responsive manner.”
